Northwest Potato Research Consortium
Cooperative Effort of the Potato Commissions of ID, OR, & WA
The Northwest Potato Research Consortium is piloting a new proposal format and review process during the fall of 2022 and winter 2023. Two-page proposals are due in mid-December; the concept proposal stage has been eliminated. Proposals will be distributed to the Consortium board and the three commissions. In early February there will be a formal research review involving presentation of each proposal by the lead scientist or a representative. Research committees from all three states will be invited to attend, and all such industry personnel present at the meeting score the proposals. Immediately after this event the Consortium board will meet to review the rankings of the proposals generated by the industry reviewers and collaboratively generate a list of projects and funding amounts to recommend to the boards of the three potato commissions. The funding decision-making process is not officially complete until all three potato commissions have given the Consortium manager clearance to make funding announcements to lead scientists on the projects. The earliest this clearance occurs is during the March meetings of the commissions.
