Since 2002 the Northwest potato industry has faced a series of three major insect pests that it had not hitherto dealt with: beet leafhopper (which transmits the phytoplasma that causes purple top disease), potato tuberworm, and potato psyllid (which transmits the bacterium that causes zebra chip).
